I will be teaching a few classes at the Bismarck Quiltfestcoming up at the end of the month. One of the classes is a stumpwork dragonfly and I had an idea on how to create 3-D wings using Angelina.....
Wonderful! I wish angelina fibers had been around when I made stumpwork dragonflies for Christmas ornaments a number of years ago. Of course if it had been, the question is "would I have thought of using it?"
I had perched each dragonfly on a styrofoam ball that had been padded with batting and then randomly wrapped with various threads (including silk and metallic). This is a wonderful presentation and a good way to use up old threads that have become too fragile for stitching.
Amy, very pretty. When I use sheer fabric or Angelina for wings, I stitch a feather stitch down the center of each wing from tip to body and from side to side. I just taught my class and they loved the look.
Lovely, you are so talented. I have been making dragonflies, doing the wings in thread and chiffon. These are quite large for a project I am working on. Shall post pics on my blog tommorow. Take a peak if you like.
